The movie ANGELS & DEMONS by TOM HANKS is a film based on the book Angels and Demons, by Dan Brown.. However, it contains several changes n differences...

MOVIE BOOK

jz some differences of the book n d movie.......
first of all, the characters (info also from wikipedia)

  • Robert Langdon - A professor of symbology at Harvard University and the main protagonist of the novel. He is flown to CERN to help investigate the murder of Leonardo Vetra. He is described as wearing a pair of chinos pants, turtleneck, and tweed jacket. His name is a tribute to John Langdon.
  • Leonardo Vetra - A scientist working at CERN and a priest. He is researching on antimatter when he is murdered by the Hassassin. He is also the adoptive father of Vittoria. (it is not mentioned that he is a priest, and the movies shows that he is murdered jz after they had experimented the antimatter.. it is also not mentioned that he is the adoptive father of Vittoria)
  • Vittoria Vetra - The adopted daughter of Vetra. She, like her father, works with CERN. Her research focuses on biology and physics. The reader learns early in the novel that Vittoria worked with her father in their research of antimatter. (the movie started with vittoria working with a group of scientists, not only with her father)
  • Camerlengo Carlo Ventresca - The Camerlengo (Papal Chamberlain) during the conclave. He murdered the pope, who is later revealed to have been his father. He is also Janus in the novel, named after the Roman god of beginnings and ends, in dealing with the Hassassin. (it is not revealed that the Camerlengo is the Pope's son.. the name JANUS is also not mentioned, and also that he is the one who hired the Hassasin..even the name 'Hassassin' is not mentioned)
  • Cardinal Saverio Mortati - The most senior cardinal in the conclave, and the current Dean of the College of Cardinals. He was the Devil's Advocate for the late pope.
  • Commander Olivetti - The commandant of the Swiss Guard. He is initially skeptical on the claims of Langdon and Vittoria until he talks with the Hassassin. He, along with other Swiss Guards, search desperately for the missing antimatter hidden somewhere at the Vatican. He is killed by the Hassassin at the church of Santa Maria della Vittoria.
  • the picture shows the Swiss Guards in the Vatican City......
  • Captain Rocher - The second in command after Commander Olivetti. He is contacted by Max Kohler telling his knowledge on the real cause of the events. He is killed by Lt. Chartrand, who was under the impression that Rocher was an Illuminatus. (he knows the real cause of the events by stealing Vetra's journals from Vittoria)
  • Hassassin - The killer hired by Janus, the Camerlengo in disguise, to fulfill his plans. He is of Middle Eastern origin and displays his sadistic lust for women throughout the novel. He murders Leonardo Vetra, the Preferiti, and Commander Olivetti. He dies after being pushed from a balcony by Langdon at the Castel Sant'Angelo and breaking his back on a pile of cannonballs below. (not mentioned that he is hired by anyone... =.= his sadistic lust for women is also not shown.. those who had read the book sure is showered with disappointment that those scenes are not even shown..hehe....his death, in the movie, is caused by an explosion due to some bla bla bla thingy when he starts a car..probably prepared by the Camerlengo)
  • Maximilian Kohler - The director of CERN. He is feared at CERN despite his paralysis. His wheelchair contains electronic gadgets such as a computer, telephone, pager, video camera, and a gun. He contacts Langdon to help him find the killer of his friend, Leonardo Vetra. He blames the Church for his paralysis, due to his highly religious parents denying him medical care as a child, becoming a scientist as a way to rebel. (this character is totally nt mentioned)
  • Gunther Glick and Chinita Macri - A reporter and camera crew for the BBC. They are contacted by the Hassassin regarding the events happening in the Vatican. Glick has a notorious reputation as a sensationalist and conspiracy theorist journalist. Macri, meanwhile, is a veteran camera crew and a foil to Glick. They have the first-hand account on the events in the novel, from the beginning of the conclave to the election of Mortati as pope. (these two reporters did not appeared also)
  • Lieutenant Chartrand - A young Swiss Guard. He, together with Commander Olivetti and Cptn. Rocher, search desperately for the antimatter hidden somewhere in the Vatican. He shoots and kills Captain Rocher after he is mistaken as an Illuminatus. In the end of the novel, he is sent by the new pope to give the Illuminati Diamond as an indefinite loan to Langdon. (he did not send Langdon anything... and Langdon receive some sort of document thingy that he wanted =.=)
  • Cardinal Ebner - One of the four Preferiti and a cardinal from Frankfurt, Germany. He is killed by asphyxation, by means of putting dirt and soil into his mouth.
  • Cardinal Lamassé - One of the four Preferiti and a cardinal from Paris, France. He is killed by puncturing his lungs.
  • Cardinal Guidera - One of the four Preferiti and a cardinal from Barcelona, Spain. He is hanged and incinerated.
  • Cardinal Baggia - One of the four Preferiti and a cardinal from Milan, Italy and the favorite to succeed as the new pope. He was drowned. (he was saved in the movie..... celaka.. xDD)
  • Sylvie Baudeloque - Secretary to Maximillian Kohler. (not mentioned in the movie..)

hmmm.........
the antimatter stolen (as stated in the story) was one different from those antimatters created... the film shows that it is jz 1 out of 3 antimatters created....

picture shows the LHD (large hadron collider)

Langdon was escorted to CERN using d sohai jet which flies sibeh tamade fast (4gt how fast le).. bt d movie oni shows that he ride in a normal jet xD

Prof. Vittoria was pictured wearing short skirts xD bt d movie filmed showed a lady wearing a lot =.=

oh ya.. about the scene where Dr Vetra was murdered... it is true that the story indeed has 2 retina scans.. and Dr Vetra's eyeball was found jz b4 the 2nd retina scan...
the thingy thingy is....
Dr Vetra is murdered in his room or office (forgotten) bt the movie shows that he is murdered in his lab -.-
wat wonders in my mind is.....................
if a retina scan is needed to enter the lab...
and his eyeball is found in between the 2 scanners...
why is Dr Vetra murdered in the lab? (the movie shows that the lab is after the 2 retina scans -.-)
got my point? xD

although many changes made, the director still keeps the story interesting n moving =D

they went to the library to search........................................
and found this poem to lead them...
FromSanti's earthly tomb with demon's hole,
'Cross Rome the mystic elements unfold.
The path ofl ight is laid, the sacred test,
Let angels guide you on your lofty quest.

d mystic elements refers to the elements of science - Earth Air Fire Water
after figuring out how to start, they went to the 1st church...

the 1st church where the 1st cardinal is murdered....... Bernini's Habbakuk and the Angel and Agostino Chigi's pyramidal wall tomb.. this is d exciting part where they made a mistake on the church.. they went to Bernini's grave tomb instead xD

The Illuminati Brand of the EARTH ^^
interesting rite? xDthey were obviously late to save the cardinal..
the cardinal was placed underground, suffocated wiv soil into his throat -.- wtf
bt the story oni states that oni Langdon n Vittoria went in to search..
nt a whole group of sohai officers..

2nd location - west ponente at St Peter's Square
they rushed back thr =D

and finally figured out that this was d sign of AIR...
(couldnt find the AIR sign >.<)
the cardinal's lungs were punctered..
imagine tat wtf....

after d cardinal's death in front of the media n public, almost the whole nation knew about the event..

then, they rushed to the 3rd element - FIRE..
Ecstasy of St Teresa....
the cardinal was tied to pillars on top of burning chairs wtf again -.-
but not so many police went in together...
and the story also tells us that Vittoria was caught by the Hassasin..hehe
of cz, the cardinal was not saved..
bt the movie did not show out a cute thing..
sth about Langdon's mickey watch xD
those who ever read d book, u will noe.....

then the last one =D
the famous The Fountain of Four Rivers...
the cardinal was drowned anyway =D
Langdon also had a tough fite wiv the Hassassin.......
which was actually syok bt not shown in the movie >.<

then Langdon went to the illuminati's lair.......
sort of killed the Hassassin..
saved his lady Vittoria jz b4 she was raped by the Hassassin.........
and bla bla bla...

the camerlengo, later revealed towards the end of the story, was a son of the late Pope..
the story goes sth like this..
the camerlengo was brought up by his mum whom had a strong faith in God..
then when he was at a young age, while they wre in church, a bombing occured..
his mum died.......
and his father, later the murdered Pope, brought him up...
when he was older, the Pope told him that he actually had a son..
but b4 the pope could tell him that it was actually science that gave life to him, he had already ran away..
he did not know that his father was actually the late Pope, and he was born from science out of artificial insemination....
in d end, he murdered the late Pope by giving overdosage of his medicine..
only after Cardinal Mortati told him the whole truth, he felt wrong, and burnt himself in front of a huge crowd...........................................................................

and i believe most ppl dnoe bout this cool brand..
the story ended with Langdon receiving the Illuminati's brand...
shown below, the combined brand of EARTH AIR FIRE and WATER...
even if u rotate it 180 degrees, it still shows Earth on top, followed by Air, Fire and Water..
cool rite? xD

below are some nice images =D

a movie worth watching..
thrilling, exciting, breath taking...
believe me...
it will keep ur eyes on the screen =D
