Many people (friends & family) asked me this question: "eh, what are you studying now ah / what course are you in now ah??"

"BSc Geophysics..."

"ha?? geo- what??? "

"err.. geophysics la.. geology + physics.. one of geosciences.. "

"oh....... what you do after u graduate ah??"

"hmm.. a lot worh............."

I faced a lot of similar conversations above.. I may not be able to choose my main focus in geophysics now, but i am certain that im sticking with this career/course..

Geophysics is actually not very popular among malaysians.. the most they will go is Geology (malaysia still got a lot of oil mah..) In malaysia, there are only 2 universities providing this course (to my knowledge)
1. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)
2. Curtin University, Sarawak Campus

it seems like there is not much hope for Geophysicists in Malaysia =( but this will not stop me from going after this career.. =D

A new semester has started.. A new level for me.. Tougher challenges ahead.. Im now enrolled in First Year of Bachelor Of Science (BSc) Geophysics.. My studies was actually stalled for 1 year, compared with other students of my age.. the first 6 mths was my own choice though, as I had chosen the July intake in 2009.. Then during the 'switch' from foundation to degree, the next 6mths I was stalled due to miscomunication of the university..

It all started with me choosing the degree courses that i wanted during post-SPM period, ie, march-june 2009.. I actually had lotsa choices before hitting Geophysics..

At first, well actually not first, initially I wanted to be a Pilot..
I enjoyed travelling.. visit new places, countries, etc etc etc.. And a pilot is one job which 'forces' you to travel.. However, all hopes were lost when I saw that pilots need to have good eyesight (at that time).. I have good vision, the only problem is I have difficulty in differenciating colours near black (dark green, dark brown, dark red, dark maroon, dark blue in certain situations)..

Being an air steward also crossed my mind a few times.. but thinking that they have a lot of requirements and may not be able to work until the usual retirement age, oh well..

The next one came to me with much interest and passion..
Hotel management / tourism management..
A totally big difference from my other choices.. choosing an art stream course aint easy for a science student.. especially when my science subjects are quite good, not very good of course =P (and of course, except biology)
so as expected, received a lot of objections and disapprovals from all areas, including family and friends.. In the end, gave up on it..

my parents always wanted me to go for great jobs..

Civil engineering
None of the engineering courses ever crossed my mind when choosing.. its just wayyy too lame.. haha.. the main thing is still i dont have any interest in those engineering stuff.. thank god i did not choose civil or mechanics.. just look at all those pillars in buildings.. force here force there, then moment, then torque, then wadeva force that will make u go crazy xD

Quantity Surveyor (QS)
math math math.. I enjoyed math.. but math-ing everyday is still gonna kill off all my brain cells.. so, SKIP!

Acturial science
nothing fun to me.. predicting stock changes everyday? would rather play facebook tycoon games.. xD

Geologist
I first heard of geology in a Curtin brochure.. guess that's the reason i ended up here in Curtin.. the course description immediately attracted me.. even the pic above makes me so wanna go out there to ~~play~~ work.. but my dad opposed it for some racial issues (well, i think its quite true here in malaysia >.< ) so i ended up with Geophysicist almost similar with geologists, just that i get to touch on computers too!

so this is where all it began...

March-June 2009
i clearly understand that i need to go perth on the 2nd year, and the course only accepts march intake.. but I had confirmed with the marketing agent in Kuching - MMS.. they say my studies wont be delayed.. my parents also confirmed with some staff in Curtin Sarawak that my studies wont be delayed too, if i chose geophysics..
so I took the july intake in 2009 for Foundation in Engineering & Science.. studied for 1 year, completed my foundation, and enrolled for BSc Geophysics..

May-June 2010
a few weeks after registration, I was told that Geophysics was not offered in July intake 2010 coz there are not enough students.. but the subjects are all offered in other courses and they are still running, so i dont see a point for me not to take the course, and i insisted in sticking with Geophysics and not switching courses (I CAME TO CURTIN COZ OF GEOPHYSICS U DAMN IT).. Then the enrolment officer said that i can choose the subjects i wanted to take, (4 subs in sem2 2010, and 3 subs in sem1 2011, then 1 sub, which is a pre-requisite, in sem2 1011 together with my 2nd year in Perth campus).. so i agreed, and enrolled in it..

July-August 2010..
in order to confirm what the officer said (because I faced a lot of miscommunications between curtin staff, and worse, no communication at some point between departments) I personally contacted the lecturer in Perth.. to my surprise, I was not allowed to take the 1 first year subject together with my 2nd year subjects in Perth.. I must complete that subject in order to proceed to 2nd year as it is a pre-requisite.. then all the troubles began.. (note: I had already started my 1st year 1st sem for 2-3 weeks already)

August-September 2010..
i had actually forgotten everything that happened during this period.. I was busy dealing with activities, then the all new degree life, and also this issue..
my mum came over to Miri all the way from Kuching to discuss this matter with the CEO.. he said he would discuss with the staff in the coming meeting about the compensation.. I had chosen to stop for that semester, made a last minute flight back to Kuching..

September-December 2010..
waited for quite long for any results.. approached some uni.staff and had agreed to help me remind CEO.. only then, the university gave response.. The university agreed to compensate the living costs and air tickets for that semester (around 2k plus).. but did not look into the time stalled..

January 2010..
became impatient as there were hardly any results.. all the response before that were reasons like PVC not around, wait for the next meeting, etc etc..
I lodged a complaint to Curtin Perth, CC-ed to PVC in Miri campus.. immediately, there was response from almost all parts.. PVC in Perth directed me to the responsible departments, the complaint and grievance department in Perth contacted me, saying someone will be assigned to follow up with me.. then that "someone" contacted me for appointment.. the PVC in Miri referred to CEO, CEO called me on the next working day.. He confirmed with my mum that the university had agreed to compensate ONLY the balance of my 1st year course fees (ie, around RM12k).. the earlier compensation of living costs has been neglected..

I was told "this is the best the university can do"..

So here I am now, back in Curtin, studying 1st year, 1st sem..

Yup! i mean it.. angry birds is now not only available in iPods, iPhones, and other smart phones or wadeva mobile phones.. u can now play it on PC (windows, for wad i know)!!

the addictive, loved by many (i think all who played it) angry birds!

It's been quite a while since i wrote something in here. Maybe the trend of blogging has slowly fadded.. or maybe the influence of facebook (and its convenience to upload photos, vids, status, etc) has gone pretty high..

1 more week then im going back for my studies in Curtin Miri.. Hope everything will be fine this year.. my first year went bad.. studied for 1 month, then stopped until now.. missed the damn kuching fest, but luckily was able to attend the Kuching High School Fund Raising Dinner... got no pics to show, as I was one of those many students and ex-students who are busy entertaining the guests.. (but dont think my 'boss' appreciate it though, oh well).. pics, vids and more details about that nite's event can be found through this link..

during my 1st 2 months after holding my studies, I did nothing much.. apart from training the juniors from the band, i stayed at home.. but at least i did something productive (to me, it IS productive ^^)

allrite i know it's no big deal.. i know it's childish.. but hey! i made it to lvl100 finally! =D its my own personal achievement! and i also managed to scroll some nice eqs.. uploaded pics in facebook..

after that, i helped out at aarofitness gym @ 2.5 mile (same row with Desserts).. then comes my KL trip =D

finally got it downloaded and running in my lappy ^^

it features 3 whole new maps (1 chapter) which brings the previous survivors from Left 4 Dead into the game..

*the old survivors!! woo!xD

and also, featuring some new, cool weapons =DDD

and last but not least, the gun im most looking forward to...

Curtin Sarawak Malaysia's eVALUate is back!! wahahhaa...

eVALUate is an evaluating system done by students to evaluate subjects and lecturers..

that is, anynoe not satisfied with the teachings or lecturer, they can just state their matter during the eVALUate period..

if feedback on subjects are not good, amendments are to be made..
if feedback on lecturers are not good, most probably you wont be seeing the lecturer the next sem ^^

the best thing about eVALUate is, you get to win prizes!!

3R =D

The authorities had been implementing the 3R concept for a lot of years for now..
but it seems that most people are still not very IN to this tingy although it has been here for so long..
other countries (whose mentality are more developed) have been conducting it quite effectively..
their rubbish are thrown accordingly to the colour of the rubbish bins, paper bags are used instead of plastic bags, recycling projects are more strict, laws are enforced, people follow the laws, bla bla bla..
but in malaysia, it is still not that 'popular' among the rakyats and the ah-peks to recycle (especially the ah-peks of course)
so, as the base, the foundation of the country, we, the Rakyats of malaysia, need to start it first =D
we can actually save a lot of trees by applying the 3R concept on paper usage..
we use boxes, newspapers, books, make aeroplanes, samans, etc almost everyday..

to start off with, we can apply the 3R in our daily life - parking coupons
we are actually wasting a lot of processing fee n trees in order to produce the one booklet above..
and it is asking us to THROW INTO DUSTBIN!!
WHY NOT RECYCLE?!?!??!?!

oh well.. mentally challenged people always had difficulties in activating their brain cells..

ok.. the question is, how do we apply 3R on parking coupons??

1st - REUSE
reuse as many times as possible (as long as the coupon condition is good)
1 coupon usually can be reused up to 5 times, maybe more!
which means, u can actually save up to 5 times the trees u cut down!
aint that great? =D

2nd - REDUCE
ALWAYS put a parking coupon..
dont let those ppl walk around looking for offenders to land their 'saman' on..
with that, we can reduce the amount of 'samans' issued (which saves trees also ^^)
and dont 4gt, the 'saman' is issued in 2 copies, 1 for u, another for themselves..
so again, u save up TWICE the amount of trees needed for the 'saman'..

oh ya! of course, u MUST put ur parking coupon INSIDE your car..
not outside..
cz, once it rains, ur coupon will kena - tat means 1 coupon wasted..
then, if ur coupon kena then the 'saman kia' cnt read ur coupon, he may issue u a 'saman' - 2 pieces of saman wasted..
of course la, this is also to prevent them from accusing u of re-using the coupons xD
then, last but not least, RECYCLE!
whenever a coupon is used until it has reached its limitation, DONT THROW IT FOR GOD's SAKE!!
RECYCLE! =D
and, if u reli the soi kena 'saman', recycle it too! (if u return the saman to the saman collector, they sure throw away also)
just find a blue bin or pile up ur unwanted papers n giv it to the van driver who shouts 'OLD NEWSPAPER!!!!!!!!!! SURAT KHABAR LAMA!!!!!!!!!! SHIU KIU BOH ZHUA!!!!!!!!!!!!!' at ur area =D

HEY ALL!! im back =D

just had my internet fixed after 3 weeks being here in miri..
okay.. miri is still the old same miri..
just that i had moved to a terrace house rented from a mirian.. obviously -.-
the rental fee in villa is just too high for long term living..

anyway..
the weather is still the same..
maybe has "improved" since last year..
there are more "clouds" as you can see below..

the "clouds" are also more advanced..
they are thicker and can block most sunlight from reaching the earth..
the best thing is, it stays close to the ground, to give us more shade =D
anyway..
it sucks having those "clouds"..
stupid big companies producing them just for the good of themselves..

developments..
they all sux..
made citizens of Senadin suffer, especially uni students..

26th APR Jamboree

FINALLY!!!!

had some time to update my long deserted blog >.<

the yr end holidays was one filled (packed) with activities..

first ANTAC, then gang show, then the APR jamboree..

had great time during my near-2-weeks stay at KK and Mt Makiling..
a very well-spent holiday for less than RM3000..
met lots of people..

it clearly shows my strengths and weaknesses in the academic field..

my chemistry - Grade 6 (credit) 65%

if you had realised, i did not take into count my malaysian studies results..
why??
obviously, its useless and has no relevance with my course..
so, no matter how many marks i got, NO POINT!! haha

Exams are over~
the semester has come to an end~
and im goin back kuching soon........^^

i went to stay at my cousin's house before going back kuching..
saw this scenery outside..
the dark clouds are swallowing up the sky...
end of the world?? lol

we also went to SK aka fishy @ bintang plaza...

oh ya..
another highlight of my days after exam..
as u all know, COD6 and L4D2 are being released currently..
my cousin's friend managed to get it downloaded (COD6) and it can be played~ WOOTS!!!!xD
the graphics and gameplay are SUPERB!!!!!
a must try game~ ^^

the nicest part of my after exam period is, FOOD!
and i meant, WESTERN FOOD~~~
we rented a car and went down town to munch on some western food..
i ordered lamb chop..
it was VERY VERY VERY nice~
for RM14 per plate, it is very worth it..
2 pieces of lamb chop with black pepper sauce, and fries wiv some vegies and mayonaise~
absolutely delicious~~ ^^and of course, these 2 pics are not taken by my noob cam phone..
used my friends N95 (if not mistaken) to snap it..
nice though~ ^^

woohoo!! Call Of Duty 6 - Modern Warfare II is released!!! (yea... about a few weeks ago.. =.=)

im now downloading the game...
hopefully it works ^^
then i can spend my holidays fighting wiv guns again.. oh yeah~ xD

a highly rated game..
i've seen in somewhr b4 where it states that COD 6 is the best selling first person video game..
woots!

the graphics ROCKS!!!!!!!!
but of course, u need a high graphic components to fully enjoy the game...
it seems more detailed and realistic than COD5, which means, my laptop is not gonna support such high graphics.. sobz....

1 week of study week is coming to an end....

i have 5 subjects (excluding Bolehland Studies since it costs 0 credit hours, in other words, useless) Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Mx, Programming in C++, and Writing and Research Skills...

which subject have i completed you may ask...
i dare not answer... =P

well i have came across a few websites that are quite cool and useful in understanding science...

first of all, Physics...... (CLICK HERE TO ENTER SITE)
inside covers a broad range of Physics topics.....
which includes waves, reflection of light, radiation decay, electric, hydraulic, etc..

it shows what is happening and how it works..

it even calculates the answer for you with the figures you input..

even explains with animations =D

another site is a site introduced by my friend..
it explains most of the things that we need to know... (CLICK TO ENTER SITE)
this site is about chemistry...
how good it is, i havent read thru it thoroughly.. but my friend rates it quite high as it provides most of the answers and makes beginners understand chemistry quite well ^^

i mentioned SCIENCE right??
seems like i missed out BIO.. xD
but since Form4 i hadn't like tat sub..
so now, even thr's an option to go for BIO, i wont go =P
it is just so not interesting and so not fun and sooooo very lame xD

EXAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just 1 more week to my final exams..
starting from 16th Nov to 19th Nov..
8.30am EVERY MORNING (wtf....)............
not much space for me to take a breath during that period...
so i nida do wateva i can b4 d exam..
coming week is our STUDY WEEK where there are no classes or lectures..
it is mainly for students to study, study, and study~~~~

but d good thing is, the lecturers and tutors are at campus always ready to help cha..
while we are ~~having a break at home and relaxing~~ busy studyin at home, staff still needa work.. lols..

usually, ppl will make a timetable to study..
which they say is efficient..
but in my entire study life i have never done such stupid stuff..
it jz does not make sense to me..
my usual way is only to fix a time to study, and have in mind wat to study..
as simple as that..
no need to waste extra time think and plan ahead..
^^

well, staying here away from home is nothing normal..
dont have a really proper studyin environment, table, condition, etc.............
coz i used to study in my old study table which is higher than mine now, usin fan instead of air cond, no1 beside myself in d room, wivout laptop (distraction =.=), tons of books n references, my comfy chair instead of a computer chair in which i can spin around, and of cz, no lim-teh sessions wiv my buddies as a 'reward' for my time i put in studyin =D

the only thing that is same is i have food around me xD
as you can observe from the pic above, i have derived a studyin tactic that allows me to study, eat, drink, and ~~facebooking~~ refer to slides from computer..
this is wat i call, MULTITASKING!! xDD

and this is wat i just restocked from the nearby store to fill up my tummy and also to make me more 'home'...
FOOD, FOOODDD,, and MORE FOOD!! xDD

i have invested more than RM20 in the pic above..
this is only one of my restocks..
gonna restock it once it is finished.. ^^

gonna have my bath now and proceed onto my studies..
and theres something that i discovered..
i only have the thought of blogging when it nears exams.. lol...

University Life

just a mini post about the happenings and some special features in Curtin University Sarawak Campus...

as we all may quite know, similar to swinburne, the student council has a very high power in a university..
they are our voices..
they are the bridges between students and school management..
in Curtin (miri) the student council president even have a reserved parking space only for him/her.. (will take d pic when i came to it ^^)

well, the voting for nx yr's new batch of student council committees has just passed..
yeaps..
its just like voting for the government of the school...
like voting BN

or PAS

that is gonna rule the school..
bt here it is not tat sort of racist..
they don shoot each other lyk DAP n BN n PAS do..

in Curtin (miri), there are 2 parties competing for nx yr's student council committees..
the 1st one, also the current ruling party, United Democrataic Party(UDP)

and the opposition party, VOICE OF CURTIN (VOC)

as you can see, it is like what we usually see during the voting season..
each party promise this promise that..
for BN i noe that their promises are quite empty la..
bt here i am not sure..
maybe nx yr i will know.. ^^

they pasted notices all over the school..

cool rite? xD

there's even a voting area at the Curtin Main Building..
handled by lecturers...
now u can see how strong the student council is? ^^

oh ya..
besides student council, there is another thing call eVALUate in Curtin here..
it is some sort of survey which allows students to rate each subject and lecturer and also to voice out opinions and suggestions..
i heard from one of our lecturers that from what she knows, Curtin (MIRI) is the university that listens to feedbacks of their students the MOST in Malaysia (among all universities la)..
any complaints or suggestions with proper and strong evidence, point, etc, the school management is sure to take action..
there is no other university in Malaysia that listens almost 100% to what the students think..

so that means, if u behsong tat lecturer, die ah him/her nx yr..
no need see liao xD

well, im gonna do my part in the eVALUate now..
and also to continue on my studies for my final exam which commences 2 weeks from now =.=

A FEW WEEKS AGO~~~
garh... i noe i shud hav updated this post long ago..
the John Curtin Weekend 2009 is a week b4 i went back kch for the JOTA..
2nd weekend of october..
well.. as the registration is quite early, and that time i only noe pei fong, n he is not the type to go tis kinda stuff, i went to register myself.. (bored die at home arh xD)

well whatever it is, i joined..
RM10 for the whole trip..
got T-shirt worh.. worth it liao la xD

well the journey started on a tmd early morning..
woke up 6sth, took my bath, waited for the bus which arrives on 7.30am at the bus stop outside my premises..

our destination: RUMAH GINGDAN~
the trip took about 1.5hrs..
tried to sleep bt jz cnt..
maybe due to the seats not suit my sleeping methods..lols
then finally, arrived~~~^^

well, not as expected, the longhouse we went is no longer a longhouse anymore..
it is rather semi-D houses....
it is said that the former longhouse has been burnt down..

our arrival was very the welcomed by the villagers..
they prepared tuaks (luckily no malays in our group =P) for us..^^
they dressed in their traditional Iban costume n played their traditional Iban musical instruments..

then comes a Tarian Ngajat~ cool chin! xD

saw a very cute child thr oso.. playing handphone lagi!! xDD

well this is the tuak we were served..
we were given about near half of a glass..
tastes nicer than beer =D

after all those presentations n speech stuff, we went to our own foster parents' home..
as soon as we put down our bags, their daughter came n asked us
"lu tau makan durian??? makanlah!"
this may sound nice..
bt its jz d beginning of the torture..............

they had a cat.. dnoe whether its theirs o not la.. bt its cute ^^

they rear a dog too.... =.=

their backyard are used to store their crops and plant new plants... dnoe wat they are used for..
perhaps sold? or planted on new grounds..

anyways..
the guy thr is my foster dad..
d food is nice =D
n they cook damn lots of rice >.<
after lunch, another of my newly-met friend's foster parents brought us visit her farm..
and man... it IS big...
11 hectares... imagine tat!

tis is a fruit almost similar like rambutan...
nicer than rambutan! =D

then i had d chance to actually pluck a fruit tat i loved so much too..
they called it buah tarap.. or darap.. wateva.. i called it tat way too =D

i plucked one down.. n was bullied by the others cz they din ate much =.=
i had to eat most of it.. bt it WAS nice!!
and the flesh inside, A LOT!!
unlike those sold in markets, only a few biji inside =.=

the fruits were part of the 'torture' actually..
after tat, most of us were brought to visit a real, traditional longhouse..

they even have astro ahh........

even better than the chalet u live in Damai... ^^

i was kidding..
those 2 up thr are houses that cannot be joint to the original longhouse cz it was toooo long..
below is the traditional longhouse..
25lots of 'houses', it is about 10ft per house.......... i 4gt d figure edi actually >.<
they rear ~~cocks~~ chickens too ^^

there are a FEW fire extinguishers placed on tiangs of the longhouse..
bt most of them are already either expired or no pressure dah..
fail arrrr the government...

it is sort of their Iban culture that they serve foods n drinks to visitors..

they taught us their traditional dance - TARIAN NGAJAT ^^
we oso had games n dances bla bla bal~
many tried, bt failed to get it..

on the other hand, many escaped the dance by pretending to be photographers xD

that's for the 1st day anyway..
we slept soundly.....

and..

woke up at 7..

breakfast was kinda light.. *thank god!!!*

and my foster mum brought us to her dnoe whose de kebun xD
together along with quite a few ppl, we prepared ourselves..
my foster mum was kind enaf to let me drive their HILUX!!! xDDD
damn! xD
well i drove d black one and her son-in-law drove d white one (below)..

n u see that german shepherd thr??
it jumped up onto d hilux by itself..
no need any external help, oni an order by master, up he go! ^^ pro chin.. pro pro than ohjiji de xD

everything's set!! and off we go!!

our adventure began with simple simple plucking those rambutan-like fruits which we are gonna bring home =D

these are bario paddys ^^
which are sold at quite a price in the market..

then, off we go to our next adventure - DURIAN!!

we werent that lucky..
we could not detect any durians, whereas the villagers get the durians lyk they can see it thru those grasses...
damn....
we found one!! bt it was rotten.... so we left it....

these are baby durian trees ^^

well, our luck came and we found 4 together ^^

as monkey as i am, i climbed d langsat tree to pluck langsats xD

then, we took a short break while an uncle climbed up a buah debai tree..
a fire was set up, and we ate those freshly picked durians =P

a beautiful effect caused by the sunlight shining towards the smoke created by the fire ^^

only a some sort of cloth which fix the position of the branch and a long cloth to transport water up..

and we were down thr preventing the branch from slipping...

after all d work, back we go...
our durians effort =P
took a nice refreshing bath and LUNCH!! woohoo!! xD

as we were already tired, we took a rest and waited at the tuai rumah's varendah..

Physics Experiment - Spring Constant.....

one of our experiments conducted tis yr =.=

tis yr's experiments are all lame lame ones...
looking at mini movements of objects..........
although not very fun, bt stilll have to get it done >.<

simple experiment...

a holder or wateva it is called.... to hold the masses..

Newton Spring Balance - to measure the weigh of the masses

a 20g cute mass~ ^^

1st of all, the smal cutee cute masses are measured.......

two springs of almost similar length n size n type are chosen....
their spring constants are determined by hanging masses at one end....

then, a parallel structure is used....

and then a series structure.........

after all those data recordings n tabulatings, time to plot the graphs -.-

of course, plotting graphs cnt be done by ALL~ so it is also a good time to rest up ^^

well, as always (as expected xD) we finished the experiment quite early..
so i got tons of time walkin around, taking pics of other groups who are still struggling in their experiment ^^

tat's quite almost all about this post..
gonna post bout my weekend 2 weeks ago at an Iban longhouse homestay ^^

15歲那年, 為了讓一個女生開心. 一個禮拜內我讓自己學會了彈吉他, 自彈自唱. 手指都流血了.
後來接觸了音樂, 開始創作到現在... 11年了.

音樂在一開始對我而言, 只是一種追女生的技巧...一種自我肯定...
之後我用音樂來發洩不滿的情緒, 用來記錄我的生活, 就好像寫日記一樣...
幸好我目前還沒有可悲的把音樂當作在 "工作"進行...

就在2009年, 我寫了一首歌

這首歌.......淨賺了三百千馬幣!!(約新台幣三百萬)!!
沒錯, 這就是那首88水災賑災歌曲 "還有我".

雖然賺了那麼多, 當然那些錢不是給我的.
經過統計後, 馬來西亞紅星月會將把這筆錢送到台灣去賑災.

今天是籌款的截止日期,

捐款箱還沒有全部被打開, 所以數目還在增加當中...

看到了眼前這筆數目跟成績...
我感到無比的驕傲.

雖然這首歌沒有上龍虎榜冠軍.
雖然這首歌沒有入圍金曲獎
雖然這首歌沒有讓我買到一棟 "別墅"

但是這首歌讓我能大聲的對台灣的朋友們說
"台灣的朋友! 不用怕! 這裡有三百萬新台幣! 拿去用先吧!"

a week has passed in Kuching and i am now back in Miri...
2 mths later, i will be back in Kuching again....

jz a brief glance of what i have been doing in the whole week of Raya Hols in Kch......

it all started with my first day arriving in Kuching....
got my hair cut and of course, visit Life Cafe @ carpenter street...

unfortunately, MBO's halls for where got ghost are fully occupied =.=
even with Ohjiji's membership card, we were unable to get a seat....
but at least our trip to The Spring isnt wasted..
cz this little sea freak wanted to see me soooooooo badly..

learnt quite few new stuff although i am attending as rover instead of member..
the participants reli need to buckle up in order to achieve wei shun's required standard....
as well as those committees...
still got a lot to learn n consider in organizing a camp..^^

another 1.5 mths, then it will be my final exam..
about 2 mths from now, i will be back in kch again...
as i had told Ohjiji, im gonna list a series of events that i m planning to do during my 3 mths long holiday~ ^^

Climb that stupid Mount Santubong, followed by a nite stay @ Santubong Resort.. budget per pax shud be about RM70.. includes resort room rate, lunch, dinner (most probably at Buntal), transportation..

CONQUER Mt Kinabalu.. either Dec or Jan.. coordinating with my KK frens, perhaps a 3 days hike (a morning's hike from inn to summit).. budget per pax depends on air fare.. but most probably would need RM500 for the whole journey.. (air fare, ground transportation, climbing gears, accomodation, etc)

VISIT west malaysia with frens.. shud be on january 2010.. budgeting about RM800 for a week or so trip.. planning to go Penang, KL (sun bian buy my camera xD), Genting, perhaps Melaka if possible for some nice shots ^^ hope we can get low rate accomodations thr >.<

guez that shud be all =.=
of course additional trips of 2 days 1 nite or 3 days 2 nites or day trips to Gng gading, santubong, damai, permai, lundu (crazy =.=), and maybe ask Tony or Ya Sing to bring us go caving? xD

2 months in my new university life @ Curtin, Miri campus, has passed...

a tuition free week is coming up in conjunction with the Hari Raya holidays..
FINALLY, i can return home to ~~play~~ catch up and complete my holiday assignments..

in my queue are my Chemistry case study on the topic ' paint', Research and Writing Skills essay on El Nino, Physics lab report, Engineering math homework on Trigonometry and Functions..

although i wanted to study away from home volunteerly, i still must admit that i kinda miss home..
leaving a place where u hav been staying for almost 20yrs and with those bunch of ~~'pig fren dog fren'~~ buddies, isnt reli easy to get used to..

really missed those days of going STAR cineplex, shopping (or rather loitering) at The Spring, go badminton, eating steamboat, lim teh, etc...
my life here has less of those excitements and fun..
repeating my daily routine almost everyday..

but now, holiday has arrived..

a week has ended...
2 more weeks to FREE CURRY RENDANG SATAY..................... =.=
was trying to finish my homeworks - chemistry and engineering math...
in which, i stunned and blurred quite badly (kena blur kia aura gives an additional blur-ness) during my fite against chemistry..
well at least i still noe what H2O, HCl, NaCl, NaOH, MgCl, etc.. stands for.....
but when i saw these few words, REDOX, MOLES....., MASS OF MOLES, MOLAR MASS, VOLUME, BALANCING EQUATIONS, etc, my motto of 'BRING IT ON' instantly changed to 'WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, I GET MY PILLOW AND SLEEP'..

well i din went to sleep actually...
i told myself tat i was gonna do sth b4 i started gaming..
so, tired of solving those MISSION IMPOSSIBLE questions, i went back doing research on my future career..
ALSO, to check out whether my weakness in chemistry will affect my course or not...........

Bachelor of Science (Geophysics)

This course aims to extended students knowledge of current academic research methodology as it is applied in the flied of geophysics and to demonstrate this though the conduct of a supervised research project and preparation of an honours dissertation. This course provides a range of opportunities in Geophysics. Graduates typically find employment in Malaysia and overseas industries involved in petroleum exploration, groundwater exploration, environmental management, Engineering Geology and energy recourse development programs. Graduates are equipped with the knowledge and skill to design and manage the operation of mining and oil exploration, engineering geology and other related industrial activities. This course is accredited by the Autralian Intitute of Mining and Metallurgy. An honors degree in Geophysics satisfies the academic requirements for membership to the academic requirements for membership to The Society if Exploration Geophysicists (USA), The Australian Society of Exploration Geophysicists and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

Course Description

In the three years, the course is based on geology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry and supporting subjects. In the forth year, advanced topics of applied and exploration geology and geophysics and covered. The first year of the course id multidisciplinary in approach and involves the study of materials and process essential for the development of geological concepts, as well as the role of measurement in geology and mapping. The areas of study include crystallography, mineralogy, petrology, paleontology and structural geology. Relevant aspects of chemistry, physics, mathematics and computing are studied as well as an English unit to improve oral and written communication skills. In subsequent years, process and results are studied in sedimentology, stratigraphy, historical geology, tectonophysics, geodynamics, pertrogenesis, ore genesis and geomorphology. Advanced techniques in geological measurement and mapping include geostatistics, surveying, geology and field geology. Energy recourses, marine and environmental geology, hydrogeology, and exploration geochemistry and geophysics. There are two field camps in third year are of 16 days duration and are usually conducted in May and September. There are three third year streams: exploration/applied geology, environmental geology and hydrogeology/engineering geology.

Career Opportunities
The majority of Curtin’s graduates are employed in the mineral or oil and gas exploration industries. Some are employed directly by processing companies, others by the many consulting and environmental groups. Employers generally regards Geophysics as versatile Geologist and this makes them greatly sought after by consulting Geological and Geophysical groups and smaller companies.

Please take note that for student enrolled into July intake for Geology, they need 3 ½ years to complete the course as some of the prerequisites are not offered in July. If the student enrol into Feb intake, they need 3 years to complete.

Applied Geology: Structured in consultation with industry, the course is designed to provide professional training in exploration and applied geology. this course can actually bring me back to my Scouting life, even if im away from home at Miri or Perth..
going outings, field trips, contributing to society, interested in natural world, travelling, geo-stuff....
and d nicest thing about this course is (which i don k tat much), it is in HIGH DEMAND!!
our University Life officer told us that, 97% of the Geologists and Geophysicists are hired by PETRONAS (SHELL oni managed to hire 3% of the graduates in tat particular year)..
and orh...
if kena hired by SHELL or PETRONAS, (includes all other professions), the base salary (i heard) is RM3.6k..
adding in the allowance will make it to about 4.4k...
more than 2 times the pay if u work in normal companies..
COOL RITE!! xD
but thr's a catch..
ur pay wont rise that fast due to the overwhelming numbers of workers, thrfore, fewer opportunities of being promoted unless u r reli good =D

in the eastern Spanish town of Bunol, lies a world record holder event..
it is, with reference from MSN news, the WORLD'S BIGGEST TOMATO FIGHT...

BUNOL, according to WIKIPEDIA...
it is a small town of 112km2, 38km west of the province of Valencia, Spain..
it has a population of only 9000..
but is visited by over 30k for the La Tomatina event, which is the tomato fight event..
the event is held on the last wednesday of august yearly..

Tens of thousands of people from around the world have hurled tonnes of ripe tomatoes at each other in an annual food fight that leaves the eastern Spanish town of Bunol covered in red pulp.

More than 40,000 people took part this year in the food fight known as the "Tomatina", now in its 64th year.

They were provided with over 100 tonnes of tomatoes by the town council for the battle.

This week's massive food fight lasted about one hour and left participants covered in pulp and standing ankle-deep in red mush.

Many men were shirtless while others wore old clothes, hard hats, goggles or protective plastic sheets.

Shopkeepers put up huge plastic covers on their store fronts or boarded them up for protection.

Later, municipal workers and local residents used giant hoses to clean the walls and streets.

Meanwhile the food fighters headed to a nearby river where temporary showers were set up.

The event cost the town of some 10,000 residents 28,000 euros (40,000 dollars) to stage, Spanish media reported.

The "Tomatina" is held each year in Bunol, located in a fertile region some 40 kilometres north of the coastal city of Valencia, Spain's third-largest city, on the last Wednesday in August.

The origins of the event are unclear although it is thought to have its roots in a food fight between childhood friends in the mid-1940s in the city.

It has grown in size as international press coverage brought more and more people to the festival.

IT's been a month since i have left Kuching and spending my time in this place..

needa wake up early (at least not as early as usual =D)..
monday - 9am to 6.30pm..
tuesday - 8am to 1.30pm, then 5pm to 6.30pm..
wednesday - 8am to 4pm
thursday - 8am to 12nn (if no lab) 5.30pm (if thr's lab sessions)
friday - (the best part) FREE!!! NO CLASS ^^

and we had a tutor in which initially i thought was the founder or owner or wateva of CCK...

well, i later found out tat she has no connection with the CCK above..
its just that her name is C.C.K.......... =P (hope she won find out that im writing tis)

after nearly 1mth of waiting, **FINALLY** we received our Student ID..
and therefore, all of us are eligible of applying this wonderful package of DiGi's...

as i had introduced in one of my posts LONG AGO, DiGi Campus's privileges are undeniable, THE BEST!!!!

well, the rate is quite cheap..
both in SMS and calling..

for calling, it is 15 cent/min for all networks, but as soon as the daily usage for calls exceeded RM2, all calls to DiGi networks are FOC.... NO JOKE!!! FOC!!!!!

and as for SMS-ing, it had totally overpowered MTV's package, i.e. free sms to all FnFs, just tat wivout the monthly charge of RM5..
for SMS to DiGi networks, it is 1 cent/SMS, and 6 cent/SMS to other networks..
cheap huh?? ^^

and the data services (which i did not use =.=), it is 10 cent/kb, and as soon as the monthly usage exceeds RM30, it is FREE!!! AGAIN!!!! FOC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!^^

oh yeah...
of course, i got myself the DiGi Campus..

to save up the trouble, i got a new number..

ETHNIC COMPOSITION IN MALAYSIA

The Minister of Education of course denies any favouring towards the Malays but everyone knows that if you are non-Malay, the job of marking your paper will be outsourced to another country, usually Zaire, Chile, Guatemala, Imaginationland, and Krakozhia(The place where Tom Hanks came from in the movie "The Terminal").

Still, the Malays are generous enough to do extra badly in the exams and thus end up with marks lower than the Chinese or Indians. However, most Malays regret neglecting their education and not being able to make good money and so they usually take on jobs that allow them to feel the money in their hands for a little while. Examples are toll booth attendants, fast food restaurant cashiers, and those people that sit in front of public toilets to collect 20 cents per toilet entry, plus another 20 cents for toilet paper.

MALAYSIAN ECONOMY

Malaysia exports a lot of rubber to countries around the world. All thanks to the hard work of the heroic rubber tappers summoning up courage to face the occasional 'pontianak' or 'momok' frights as well as countless attacks from cobras, Polar Bears and Hamsters.

Malaysia is the only country with its own style of National Service which is not base on military conscripting. Yet, there are at least 1 death every year due to this program. Malaysia Boleh.

PLKN is military training and sex education in a single package. Each year there is at least one person who got his cherry popped (anally violated to be exact). During the course the trainer will often rape the trainee or vice versa. The males are always the victim - why the girls are somehow spared is unknown.

The Malaysian National Service has been arranged into several modules:

Physical Module: Produce military teams to invade another country. 1st target Communist Singapore, then Indonesia, and finally the evil USA. Malaysians are trained to use the keris (traditional Malay knife used for carving bananas) in combat. C4 detonating course is personally supervised by Najib.
Character Building Module: Build up character to cheat tourists, bribe people, snatch handbags, Mat Rempit, spit on the floor, lead UMNO, etc...
Gay Education Module: Malaysia's attempt to halt the raping and turn it into a formal training session. This only applies to male dorm when it is night time. The only activity they can do is Gay Party!
Lesbian Education Module: Similar program as above but for the girls.
Community Service Module: Where the trainees are treated as slaves for cleaning sewage, moving large concrete to a construction site, pushing stones, burn rubbish, campaign for UMNO and loiter around the village showing off their uniforms.
Suicide Bombing Module: Cancelled due to lack of volunteers from non-Muslim trainees.

Accidents

If you happen to see a car hit a motorcycle, quickly stop your car and stand there to watch to see whether the biker died or still alive. Make sure you join the crowd, watch and talk nonesense as if you care and willing to help. Don't call an ambulance - they won't arrive in time and besides it's not that you really care.

Those who won't stop their cars can always slow down and irritate the rest of the drivers behind you. Winning elections in Malaysia (one of the coolest part!)

In Bolehland, winning elections is a no-brainer. Anyone can become a prominent YB(Yang Bodoh/Yang Babi) these days - even a university reject (don't believe me, ask Najis Tong Rosak).

To gain Malay votes, you just have to promise them first-class citizen treatment. As for the Chinese promise them lots of money, business opportunities and good fortune. Then for the Indians promise you won't demolish Hindu temples anymore.

For the Orang Asli...err...who cares. Their votes are too small to make a difference, but if you insist then just promise the usual stuff - more transport and infrastructure into their jungles, more hospitals, etc. However you should NOT promise them first class citizen treatment - or the Malays will jail you under ISA for treason.

Of course, as in all elections around the world, you can forget about fulfilling your promise once you won, so that later you can promise the same thing again!!Can meh? Of course we can. Malaysia Boleh Mah!

Language Dillema

Following a policy reversal of teaching Math and Science in English, nation-wide SPM test scores for rural areas increased by 0.005%, which experts claim has the same significance as Najib playing with C4 in Malaysia or a Malay raping his daughter. The remaining students refused to sit for the exam due to the ridiculous questions such as in Add Math, "Cuba cari jawapan untuk x dalam persamaan x+1=0. my internet connection (streamyx) has been set up jz a few hours ago and i m now using stable n speedy internet ^^

in fact, this place or 'ESCAPE' is a place for students to rest, chill out, play, and do wateva they want =D (nub fong zai in the pic below ^^)

and also cool speakers (which i did not had a pic of it =.=)

you can also have a nice hot coffee to wake urself up ^^

there are even sofas!!

b4 i 4gt, the pool is NOT free..
charged on a 'winner stay loser pay RM2' basis...
bt still, not bad~ ^^

and as all of u may know, university life is a total diff compared to high school..

ESPECIALLY when u r away from home....
u get to buy all those needys to have a better life..

in high sch, teachers tend to give us notes and notes n MORE notes...
in UNI, U PRINT UR OWN ON UR OWN EXPENSE!!

the school has printing services..
but it costs 10cent per page printed =.=
and the printer is shared among like 20 students, or even 40, depending on the number of computers in that room..
u gotta wait, u gotta rush, u gotta PAY, to print stuff...... (and it is essential for every student to do printing)

to save up all the trouble, i managed to get a printer at RM270..

a canon PIXMA iP1980

the normal price for a PIXMA iP1980 is only about RM130..
but after some serious thinking, me n fong zai decided to buy a MODIFIED version of PIXMA iP1980..

yeaps...
the modification costs an additional RM140..

the pic below shows the modified part.. (notice the extended part on the bottom right of the pic)

the modification is done on the ink..
each ink has an extended container to store the inks..
it works on a pressure basis whereby the outer /wider chamber pushes ink into the smaller chamber which is then flowed to the ink cartridge..

cool rite??
and the refill is also much cheaper..
for 100ml of ink, regardless of the colour type, it costs only RM18.. (where the 'injection' type has only about 16ml and costs RM20++ - if im not mistaken.....)

u can see how many users are gonna share 1 printer...........

yeaps... this is what u saw... the above poster is sent to me (all curtin studs) to warn us of 'suspected' crocs (LOL) in the campus lake or wherever they tink that crocs might b..

the above pic is a notice placed on notice boards....

well, it is not surprising to have that kind of warning..

as you can see, the whole lake is filled with those sohai green stuff..
very good cover for anything dangerous........

The 22nd World Scout Jamboree will take place from 27 July 7 August 2011 in Kristianstad, Sweden with around 40,000 Scouts expected to attend from around the world.

The Jamboree campsite will be in Rinkaby, outside the town of Kristianstad in the very south of Sweden. Rinkaby, in old Swedish, means "The Village of Champions.

Theme
The theme of the event is 'Simply Scouting'. Within the idea of 'Simply Scouting', there are three key concepts for the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden: meetings, nature and solidarity.

Programme
The Jamboree programme encompasses everything at the event. The Scouts will experience the 22nd World Scout Jamboree through five areas: subcamp life, module activities, common areas, arena events and Camp in Camp.

Participation
Participants in the 22nd World Scout Jamboree are young people aged between 14 and 17 years old. They must have been born between 25 July 1993 and 27 July 1997.

International Service Team
An estimated 8,000 staff are needed to run the Jamboree, and these will come from countries all around the world. The International Service Team (IST) will be open to active Scouts aged 18 or over at the start of the Jamboree (born on or before the 24 July 1993).

hmm... the village of champions... a nice place to visit..
seems that most of our scouts are going to attend will be going as IST.. lols... those young ones will be lucky then..

in d coming APR jamboree in Manila, The Philippines, initially we had high hopes of attending the jamboree.. but it had somehow faded.. just hope this coming World Scout Jamboree wont disappoint us ^^

if im not mistaken, the youngest members who had attended a jamboree were this yr's Form 5 batch.. a few of them though... most members do not have a chance i gues.......

LOCATION: Kenya

AGES OF PARTICIPANTS:Participants: 2,500 young people aged 18-26 at the time of the Moot.

International Service Team (IST): 390 IST, aged 26 years and over at the time of the Moot.

the World Scout Moot, however, is only for participants that are over 18 yrs old.. this is slightly different from the World Scout Jamboree and other Jamborees as the IST will be participants of over 26 yrs!! that means, no worries bout not being a member in jamborees!! u still get a chance to be a member in the world scout moot although u r in the IST in normal jamborees ^^

all info are available from WOSM (World Organization of the Scout Movement).. do visit it often as it contains updated info from time to time... although it may seems useless or has no connection to us, it keeps us updated of the scout movements that are taking part around the globe.. as a scout, just visit it regularly, as it will somehow help ^^

checked in my hostel room yesterday..
house number - 5019..
staying with fong fong currently..

welcomed by some nice interior~ ^^

we stayed at Curtin Villa..
quite secured actually~ =D and quite safe too...

we were asked to check all d stuff inside n mark on those sohai or cacat items..

and it is quite common for Deer meat to be served...
also d common for THIS THING to be found in Deer meats (sometimes pork also)

its a small piece of heavy metal thingy.......

used for hunting down the deer ^^

stayed at my aunt's for d nite....
n were greeted by these 2 frenly n sibeh tmd cute puppies as soon as i opened the door...
they even played like sohai ^^ (actually they play wiv almost any1 =.=)

d whole orientation day started at the Lecture Theatre.....

some booklets n dnoe wad sohai-s they gav us^^
overall this new life was quite nice..
jz tat need wait quite long for d bus during aftn time.......

just back from a long nite...
from a dinner at SHARING PLANET, till watching a movie at ya sing's house..xD

well...**FINALLY**~~~ visited n dined in SHaring Planet..
a nice place (for a nice price =.=)
deepest apologies for not having any pics as my camera had its lens cover stucked or whatsoever happened to it, it can oni take pitch black pics..
5 of us dined thr, a bill of RM100.30..
after using the MY PRIVILEGE BOOK coupon, 15% is discounted from the actual price, leaving RM85.25...

oh well...
left Sharing Planet n went to Shun's..
talked with him a little bout ANTAC & Degree n Master stuff..
come to think of it, im still in Scouting even though i'm moving to Miri in d coming 4 mths..
so far, yet so near..
technologies had made the world a small place to live in..
to i-dnoe-who and his members, hope u can tolerate wiv my absence in KCH ^^

after that, went watch movie, then here am i, Home Sweet Home, which i will be leaving in less than 20hrs....

jz a mini post on some of my scout badges....

got tis one (guez tis is one of my earliest badges) in a PLTC @ SMK Santubong in 2005..
a state level one if i din rmb wrongly.......

tis one is the celebration of 90 years of Scouting in Sarawak...^^ (also in 2005)

tis one is a Malaysian Contigent APR jamboree badge.. my seniors who went thr sells these.. so i bought from them ^^

another Jamboree badge... given by hoong yeee... (he still has a few kua.....)

the 2 following badges... er........
brings back bitter yet unforgettable memories...
a new start this year for our group?
hope so...
and perhaps bring back the AXE nx yr.........

this is one of d nicest badges i had..
a leather badge..
a limited edition one (they said so....)
it is said that there are only 200 (or 400) of these badges and half of them are sent to West Malaysia...
so oni d other half are on sale in KCH......
regardless whether it is limited edition or not, i still grabbed this opportunity to grab 2 of them ^^ (but oni found one... d other one need undergo some intensive search to recover it -.-)
this badge is marks 50 yrs of Scouting in Malaysia (also in conjunction wiv d centenary scouting celebration)

now this, is one of my favourite badges..
'IMPORTED' from korea, imported by Hoong Yeee when he attended d jamboree..^^

i'm sure most gamers knew tis game long ago edi..
it is released last yr around November and i 1st played it arnd december (which freaked me out at first =.=)

in Left 4 Dead, there are 4 characters to choose from..
from left to right: Francis (the tattoo guy), Bill (the veteran), Zoey 9(~~the hawt babe..~~ **errhem** the squatting lady) and Louis (the botak xD)

like all other shooting games (CS, Half-life) it is a first-person shooting game..
jz tat the weapons are limited...
the game starts wiv a M1911 pistol (unlimited ammo)..
and has the choice of picking up a primary weapon, either an Uzi submachine gun or a pump-action shotgun..
progressing through the campaigns, more powerful weapons are available..
the well-known M16A3 assault rifle, Benilli M4 Super 90 semi-automatic shotgun and a scoped Ruger Mini-14 hunting rifle (can snipe one orh!)

besides those weapons, a first aid kit (for healing), pain pills (for temporary boost of health) and bombs (either molotov cocktails or pipe bombs)..

items can also be picked up to melee attack those freakin zombies, and explode when shot! cool chin! xD

i admire those Japanese warriors of the past who hold strongly to the BUSHIDO concept (the way of the warrior)..
whenever they are facing death, they rather die in their own hands than having been killed by the enemies..

i was actually touched by this kind of concept when i first viewed it through a movie (although i had read about it b4) by Tom Cruise, THE LAST SAMURAI (a 2003 film)..
a nice movie though =D
